Along Third Street South, the pace of life is steadily picking up. Stores have reopened their doors, and diners again grace outdoor courtyard tables at local cafés. The flowers are blooming and the fountains’ waters provide a lovely sound. There are differences, of course. Shoppers and shopkeepers wear colorful face masks, and restaurants have spaced their tables to allow for greater distance between groups.
Third Street South wants you to visit. Here are some of the precautions that we are taking, respectful of current guidelines and in support of our merchants and visitors.
Stores often have limited hours, which are posted on this website, and a handful remain open only to online shopping and in-person shopping by private appointment. They are posted also. All stores and restaurants have undertaken deep cleaning, and are ensuring that their shops remain shipshape. Please remember that if a proprietor requests that shoppers wear face masks while in the store, or limit the number of people inside at any one time, it is for everyone’s benefit, and your respect and courtesy are kindly requested.
Restaurants are proactively following the State of Florida orders to keep their occupancy to currently no more than 25 percent of full capacity, and will readjust if that figure changes. Outdoor dining spaces, which have the added advantage of sunlight with its dose of Vitamin D, have tables set six feet apart (chair back to chair back) as mandated. The dining industry has long been subject to stringent cleanliness practices, and rightly so, so owners are simply doing what they do best—enhancing already existing protocols so you can dine safely and comfortably.
Third Street South is still its charming, historic, welcoming self, and still full of the best restaurants and stores. Come to wander.
